Individual Welding Competition – Skills USA, Utah 2022 Overview: We’re excited to announce we will be holding the State Individual Welding competition this year in-person rather than being virtual! During the competition, we’ll have a rotation for each process, and written exam. At the end of each rotation, the contestant will remain at their work station and wait to be directed to move to the next station. Uniform – Skills USA Uniforms must be worn to both the Pre-Contest Meeting and Contest. Failure to wear the Skills USA uniform will result in 5% deduction. This post provides a majority of information for this competition, however, please continue to look for follow-up posts that will include any updates or changes to the competition as it occurs. Flyer Way Salt Lake City, UT 84116 (More Parking Info to Follow) Contest: Fri, Mar 25th , 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM SLCC Welding Lab 1060 N. Flyer Way Salt Lake City, UT 84116 (More Parking Info to Follow) Please plan on arriving no later than 8:15 AM, as we will have a meeting prior to the start of the competition. The competition’s rotations (exact rotations will be released in a subsequent post) will begin promptly at 8:30 AM. Rules & Guidelines: 1. Contestants are to observe all safety guidelines during the competition; including the wearing of uniform, safety glasses, and closed-toe shoes at all times. 2. There will be (6) rotations, 40 minutes each: GMAW-Carbon Steel, FCAW-Carbon Steel, SMAW-Carbon Steel, GTAW-Aluminum, Oxy Fuel Cutting-Carbon Steel, & Written Exam. 3. Contestants will complete a total of 3 widgets: (1) GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, (1) GTAW, & (1) Oxy Fuel (cutting only). 4. Once the drawings have been handed out, students are not allowed to talk to their instructors, or any other contestant regarding the drawings. Any infraction will be a 5% deduction. 5. Once the part has been tacked up, it must stay on its base during all welding. The contestant will lose 50% of their points on that widget, if they’re caught rotating it. 6. If a contestant finishes early during a rotation, they are to remain at their work station. Any infraction will be a 5% deduction. 7. Contestants must remain at their work station until the end of each rotation and then promptly go to the next station. Contestants are allowed to keep a water bottle with them throughout the competition. (See full list of what’s allowed below) Scores Weighted as Follows:

Base Material (Will be provided) - Drawings will be released the morning of the competition

Shaded Glasses or Goggles f. Allowable Tools (to be provided by the contestant): 1. Welpers or Plyers 2. Chipping Hammer 3. Brush (Stainless or Carbon Steel Wire) 4. Rounded or Flat Files 5. Soap Stone, or Sharpy Marker 6. Hammer and/or Center Punches 7. Tape Measure and/or Ruler 8. Protractor and/or Square 9. Magnetic Angle Finder 10. Fillet Gages 11. Crescent Wrench 12. C-Clamps of Any Size 13. Vise Grips of Any Size 14. Pocket Calculator (Cell Phones Not Allowed) 15. Lead Pencil and/or Writing Pen g. Not Allowed: 1. Powered Tools of Any Type (If it plugs into the wall, don’t bring it) 2. Cell Phones. If you’re caught with it out during the written exam or welding, you will forfeit all exam/welding points.
